Who is eligible to enter the contest?
The contest is not restricted to Canadian citizens. Anyone who is older than 6 years of age and who is living in Canada during the contest period may enter. In addition, Canadians living abroad at the time of the contest can submit their videos to us.
Can I submit more than one video?
Yes! You can submit as many videos as you want, but only your top video, as assessed by the jury or by public voting, will be eligible to win a prize in a given category.
What is the deadline for submissions?
The deadline is August 31st, 2017 at midnight Eastern Standard Time.
When will I be able to see my video on your website?
Please allow a full week after your date of submission before contacting us. Be aware that high volumes of submissions or submitting on the weekend may result in a delay.
How can I submit my video to the contest?
You can submit your video by downloading our free video-making app from the App Store or Google Play. The app allows you to both create and submit a video to us. You can also submit videos directly to our website. If you are submitting through our website, you will need to fill out our submission form.
I don’t see my video on your website. Did something go wrong?
You will receive an e-mail notification when your video is live on our website. If you haven’t received an e-mail, chances are we haven’t reviewed your submission yet. We try to review and publish videos on our website as quickly as possible. However, if we receive a high volume of submissions, there may be a short delay. If you still have not received an e-mail notice a full week after your date of submission, contact us at email@example.com or by telephone at 1-866-701-1867.
What if I want to collaborate on my video?
You are welcome to collaborate on your video. However, there are no prizes for group submissions. The person whose name, address and contact information is on the submission form will receive the prize, regardless of the number of participants.
Guidelines For Videos
How long should my video be?
Your video must be a minimum of 10 seconds and cannot exceed 30 seconds in length, including the 2-second bumper with our logos that must be included at the end of your video.
What equipment do I need to make my video?
This is up to you. You can make a video using our app on your smartphone. You can also use professional equipment like cameras and tripods if you wish. We want anyone to be able to participate and share what Canada means to them, so using our app and your smartphone camera is more than sufficient for making a prize-winning video.
Can I use copyrighted materials in my video?
The Here’s My Canada team requires that you have obtained the legal permissions to include any copyrighted materials in your video. Those who have used copyrighted materials and are selected as winners will need to show proof of permissions before being eligible to receive a prize.
Do you accept videos in languages other than French and English?
We encourage participants to submit videos in any language of their choosing! If you would like to submit a video in a language other than French or English, you will need to e-mail a transcript of your video in either French or English to our team at firstname.lastname@example.org.
What should my video be about?
Your video must reflect on Canadian culture, history or identity. We encourage participants to be thoughtful and creative. Your video can be a song, an image slideshow, or an abstract piece – — it’s up to you!
Winners And Prizes
What can I win?
We have a wide selection of prizes. Participants are eligible to win prizes based on the performance of their video within their age category. For our full list of prizes, visit the prizes page on our website.
When will the winners be announced?
Winners will be announced on October 3rd, 2017. We will be announcing all winners on our website, and Facebook page, as well as via press releases.
How do you select the winner?
Winners for the four age categories (junior, intermediate, senior, and adult) will be selected by a high-profile jury who will assess videos based on our rubric for judging videos. In addition to these juried categories, there is a People’s Choice category in which all members of the public using a Canadian IP address can vote for their favourite entry and share it on social media. Voting is limited to one vote per person per day, as determined by IP address.
Public voting for the People’s Choice category opens January 1st, 2017 at, 12:01 am and closes August 31st, 2017 at, 11:59 pm.
How will I know if I’ve won a prize?
If you win a prize, we will contact you directly to confirm your personal information and address. We will be announcing all winners on our website and, Facebook page, as well as via press releases on October 3rd, 2017.
I just won a prize, now what?
Your prize will be mailed or emailed to you within 7 business days after we have received confirmation of your personal information.

How do I submit my video directly to your website?
You can submit your video directly to our website by completing the online submission form. Make sure to include our end bumper at the end of your video.
How can I include the end bumper in my video?
You can download our end bumper and add it to the end of your own video before submitting it to us. You must include the bumper at the end of your video before uploading it to our website in order for your video to be officially submitted to the contest. You can do this manually using video-editing software.
